How to build a weekly learning plan

Step 1: Pick three subjects, not seven

Math, reading, and writing run daily. Everything else (science, history, art) runs once or twice a week. Trying to cover seven subjects every day is the #1 reason home learning routines collapse.

Step 2: Plan four days, leave one open

Mon–Thu are work days; Friday is for catch-up, deep-dives, field trips, or rest. This is the single highest-leverage scheduling decision a homeschool family can make.

Step 3: One page per child, per week

Print one weekly planner page per child. Three rows for daily subjects, two rows for weekly ones, one box for reading minutes. Hand it to the child — let them check off their own work.

Sample weekly plan (Grade 3)

Mon–Thu: 15 min math fluency, 20 min reading passage, 10 min writing prompt. Tue/Thu add a 30-min hands-on (science one day, history the other). Friday: catch-up + read-aloud.
